UC DAVIS ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE CENTER HOSTS CAREGIVER WORKSHOP NOV. 4

(Sacramento, Calif.) - The UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Center will host a caregiver workshop on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. at the UC Davis MIND Institute, 2825 50th St., Sacramento.

Teri's presentation, "When caring is not enough: Combining science with compassion," will provide an overview for caring with persons with dementia, including specific techniques proven to be the most effective. The audience will learn about Teri's approach to care, which combines the best clinical and research knowledge to alleviate behavioral problems while targeting improved physical function to minimize the fragility of Alzheimer's patients that often leads to increased disability.
Through her research, Teri has developed and tested systematic strategies for training caregivers and health care staff in appropriate problem solving and behavior management approaches. She empowers caregivers by teaching them skills that enable them to minimize problems and improve quality of life for both the dementia patient and themselves.

Among her accomplishments, Teri received the Gerontological Society of America's Lawton Award and the Alzheimer's Association Million Dollar Pioneer Award. She has more than 350 publications, 50 NIH-funded grants, and has strong collaborations with national and international programs.

Reservations are required for this event. Call 916-734-5728 for more information.
