(Sacramento, Calif.) - The UC Davis MIND Institute will host Edwin Cook on Wednesday, Jan. 10 as part of the ongoing Distinguished Lecturer Series. He will present "Translating the complex genetics of autism" at 4:30 p.m. at the MIND Institute Auditorium, 2825 50th St. in Sacramento.
This event is open to the public, and no reservations are required. A 30-minute question-and-answer session will follow the hour-long lecture.
Cook is a professor and the director of the Center for Neurodevelopmental Disorders and the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He attended Southern Methodist University and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Cook's research focuses on the development of improved pharmacological treatments for autism. For more than 30 years, he has assessed and treated children, adolescents and adults with autism.
During his talk, Cook will review evidence that supports the role of genetics in the causes of autism and address misconceptions related to the complexity of the disorder.
Founded in 1998, The UC Davis MIND Institute is a collaborative international research center committed to the awareness, understanding, prevention, care and cures of neurodevelopmental disorders. The MIND Institute brings together members of the community including families, educators, physicians, psychologists and scientists who work together to further understand causes, development and best treatments for neurodevelopmental disorders.
These presentations are intended for both professionals and community members.
