Jack Uppal announces 4th District candidacy

Lincoln, CA, - With family, friends and supporters at his side, Jack Uppal formally announced today his candidacy for California's 4 Congressional District as a democrat. The new 4th district runs from Placer county southward along the mountains and foothills to the south end of Fresno county. In his announcement at McBean Park in his hometown of Lincoln, California, Uppal spoke of his decision to run.

"The surest way to revive our economy and create jobs is to strengthen the middle class," Uppal said. "180 million Middle-Class Americans drive our economy through our spending. When we are more confident in our future, our demand for products and services increases, and that growth in demand is what fuels jobs. Companies have to hire more people to supply our demands. It's simple economics."

"But Americans can't demand more if they're worried about their jobs, health and homes. I support helping those with underwater mortgages refinance loans at today's lower interest rates, and I support the Health Care Affordability Act because it helps us in the middle class. I support extending the payroll tax cuts in 2012 because it puts money into the pockets of middle class families."

"We don't need ideologues in Congress who accomplish nothing. I will work with the rest of Congress to move our country along the path towards a better future. We don't need jaded lifetime politicians with a resigned attitude that nothing can be done. I have a can-do approach to tackling our issues today," Uppal said.

Uppal, 57, is retired from the semiconductor industry where he was an engineer, manager, and an executive. He has engineered new products, helped launch new businesses, and has overseen and managed spending budgets of more than one billion dollars a year. Born in India, Uppal was raised in America from age 7, and became a U.S. citizen at age 18. He has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from M.I.T. Uppal has no prior political history. He lives with his wife in Lincoln, and is the proud father and step-father to three daughters.
