Rocklin, Auburn and Granite Bay Library Hours Changing

The Placer County Library plans to open and close its branches in Auburn, Granite Bay and Rocklin a little earlier some days beginning Oct. 1.

"We are pleased to be able to shift library hours and open a little earlier," explained county Director of Library Services Mary George. "We have received many requests from patrons asking us to align our hours more with the schedules of retail stores, and we are glad to accommodate them. This will make it easier for patrons to visit the library while out doing morning shopping, making post office runs and taking care of other errands."

George noted the Auburn, Granite Bay and Rocklin libraries have opened at 11 a.m. several days a week since 2008. On those days, it is not unusual to have library patrons show up at 10 a.m., unaware the libraries are not scheduled to open for another hour.

She emphasized that the schedules of the three branches are being adjusted, but the numbers of hours they are open each week are not being reduced.

The three branches will close at 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. on some days. Each will remain open until 7 p.m. on one evening each week: Auburn on Mondays, Rocklin on Tuesdays and Granite Bay on Wednesdays.

Saturday hours will remain the same: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Other branch libraries also plan to modify their schedules to better meet the needs of their communities, George said.

She and her staff evaluated the schedules of all branch libraries for several months, reviewing circulation data, observing usage patterns and holding discussions with stakeholders.

The Placer County Library has branches in Applegate, Auburn, Colfax, Foresthill, Granite Bay, Kings Beach, Loomis, Meadow Vista, Penryn, Rocklin and Tahoe City. It also operates a Bookmobile and oversees the Placer County Law Library.

More information about the branch libraries and their schedules are available on the county website at http://www.placer.ca.gov/Departments/Library.aspx.
