Lighthouse Counseling & Family Resource Center selected Best Non-Profit

SACRAMENTO - The Lighthouse Counseling & Family Resource Center was awarded "Best Non-Profit 2012" at the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce's 2012 Business Excellence Awards Ceremony on Jan. 5 at Thunder Valley Casino Resort.

"We are thrilled to have been chosen as the recipient of this award," said Angela Ponivas, Executive Director of Lighthouse Counseling & Family Resource Center. "It's wonderful to be recognized by our community for the good work Lighthouse does, and it inspires our team to work harder in 2013."

Over 200 business and political leaders attended the event and 10 Business Excellence Awards were presented.  The categories included:  Best Customer Service, Best Service Club, Best New Business, Best Restaurant, Best Community Service, Best Website, Best Non-Profit, Best Home Based Business, Woman of the Year and Man of the Year.

Lighthouse Counseling & Family Resource Center, a non-profit organization that provides Placer County with counseling, education and easy access to community based resources, was nominated for Best Community Service, Best Website and Best Non-Profit with Lighthouse's Executive Director, Angela Ponivas, being nominated for Woman of the Year.

According to Ponivas, "Receiving the Best Non-Profit Award for 2012 was a tremendous honor that we will cherish."

Other non-profits nominated included Field Haven Feline Rescue, Lincoln Area Archives Museum, Lincoln Community Foundation, Placer County SPCA, Placer Land Trust, Ride to Walk, and the Rotary Club of Lincoln.

Lighthouse Counseling & Family Resource Center's mission is to strengthen families and improve the physical and emotional well-being of residents of Placer County by providing counseling, family planning and educational services that include parenting, relationship and nutrition classes. Lighthouse serves approximately 3,000 people each year. All services provided are free to the community.
