Roseville Businesses offer Free Catalytic Converter Etching

Three Roseville businesses are stepping up to help prevent catalytic converter thefts. If you own a Toyota truck or SUV, or other high-profile truck or SUV frequently targeted by catalytic converter thieves, call one of these participating businesses to have your catalytic converter etched and painted for free.  This will make your catalytic converter less attractive to thieves, harder for them to resell, and easier for law enforcement to find the rightful owner if it is stolen and recovered.

The three participating businesses are Roseville Toyota, 700 Automall Drive, (916)774-4807; Bill McAnally's Napa Autocare Center, 900 Riverside Avenue, (916)676-0010, and Firestone Complete Auto Care, 8051 Washington Blvd., (916) 783-0431.   Please call them directly to schedule the service, or have it done the next time you take your truck or SUV in for a regular service.

Catalytic converter theft is a growing problem throughout the nation and in other countries.  In Roseville alone, 137 thefts of catalytic converters were reported in 2011, with an estimated total loss of $138,968.  In 2012, 182 thefts were reported, with a total estimated loss of $364,913.

In addition to having your converter prominently etched and painted, we also recommend parking your "higher risk" vehicles inside your locked garage at home, and parking in well-lighted, heavily traveled areas when you're out and about. We also urge everyone to call police immediately if you see or hear suspicious activity, like someone looking under vehicles or working underneath vehicles in unusual locations.  Call us immediately if you hear suspicious noises, like your vehicle alarm going off in the middle of the night, or the sound of a power tool being used on a vehicle at an unusual time or place.

This free catalytic converter etching program was made possible by the  three participating auto service businesses, Riele Auto Parts (paint donation), and the City of Roseville's Citizen's Benefit Fund.
