Playoff Home Opener for Sierra College Hoops

Rocklin - A second-place finish in the highly competitive Big 8 Conference earned the Sierra College men's basketball team a sixth seed and a home game in the opening round of the California Community Colleges Athletic Association (CCCAA) playoffs.

 The Wolverines (19-8) host the 11th-seeded West Valley College Vikings (18-10), who finished second in the Coast Conference-South, Friday, March 1 at 7:30pm at Goto/Goldenberg Court in Rocklin. The game follows the 5:30pm NorCal opener between the third-seeded Sierra College women's basketball team and 14th-seeded Mendocino College.

 The sixth seed is the highest playoff seeding during head coach John Fusano's 12 years at Sierra and the Wolverines spent most of the 2013 season ranked in the top 10 of the CCCAA state poll.

 Sophomore guard Drew Brandon (Santiago High School) led Sierra with 15.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Freshman post player Jordan Ngatai (Wellington, New Zealand) scored 15.2 points, grabbed 9.8 rebounds and blocked 2.2 shots per contest. 

Super-subs Gabe Finley (River Valley) and Pogos Trunyan (Cordova) also scored in double figures at 11.2 and 10.2 points per game, respectively. Sophomore guard Devin Murphy (Woodcreek) added 9.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists a game. 

Sophomore forward D'vaughn Mann paced the Vikings with 17.7 points, 9.8 boards and 1.1 blocks per game.  Sophomore point guard Chris Murry, who played with Mann at Fremont's Kennedy High School, averaged 15.9 points and 4.4 assists per game.
