Figure Skating Competition coming to Roseville
ROCKLIN, CA - March 7, 2013 - Placer Valley is calling figure skaters of all levels from the states of California and Nevada to SkateTown Ice Arena in Roseville. After a few years of its absence, Capital City Figure Skating Club and Placer Valley Tourism have partnered up for the homecoming of the Gold Rush Showcase-an open figure skating competition for recreational and nationally competitive skaters of all ages. This family-friendly event is scheduled to take place on March 16th and 17th with performances from 1pm - 8:30pm. Admission is free for spectators and refreshments are available on site.
The competition includes 48 categories of competition involving dance sequences and free skating. Several of them require specific footwork sequences like edges, numbered turns, jumps and hops, all dependent on skaters' competitive levels. Performances will take the form of solos, duets and ensembles.
The Gold Rush Showcase is an annual competition for skaters in the western region to compare talents; it is customary for skaters in our region to attend simply for their own personal enjoyment and performance rather than competing for a prize, however, every performance will be judged by a panel of USFSA certified judges. Each skater ranking 1st-4th place in an event receives a medal. Beginner through Juvenile level skaters of 12 years or younger can also compete for the Dana Dawson Award. Skaters of all ages are eligible for the namesake Gold Rush Champion Award, which is presented to the skater with the highest total placement in their respective events.
Placer Valley Tourism [PVT] is made up of the 23 hotels in Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln, California. PVT recruits and supports hundreds of annual events with grants, marketing, volunteers, and other services as needed.
