Tales of the Sierra Nevada Lecture April 10th in Rocklin

Rocklin--Gary Noy, author of the upcoming book, Untangled Shadows:  Tales of the Sierra Nevada, co-published by the Sierra College Press and Heyday Books, will lecture for the Sierra College Friends of the Library and the Sierra College Press on Wednesday, April 10, 2013.

The lecture will be in the Boardroom (Room LR-133A, first floor of the Rocklin Campus Library) on the Sierra College-Rocklin Campus at 7 PM.  Sierra College is located at 5000 Rocklin Road in Rocklin.  The public is invited and a general admission donation of $5 is suggested. Seniors are $2 and Students are admitted free. Seating is limited and is first come, first served.  The doors will open at 6:30 PM. All proceeds benefit the programs of the Sierra College Friends of the Library. Parking permits are required on the Sierra College campus and may be purchased for $3 at campus parking permit dispensers. Sierra College Press books will be available for purchase.

 Historian and author Gary Noy will present little-known and unusual stories about fascinating people and events in Sierra Nevada history from his upcoming book Untangled Shadows: Tales of the Sierra Nevada, co-published by Heyday Books and the Sierra College Press and scheduled to be released in early 2014.  Tales presented will include the legacy of California Gold Rush opera diva Kate Hayes; the national influence of a Nevada City power couple, the Sargents; surprising politics and politicians in the Sierra Nevada; how the Gold Country town of Murphys affected Star Trek; the poignant story of Theodore Judah and the Transcontinental Railroad; the origins of Mark Twain's celebrated lecturing career; and much more.

 Gary Noy is the Director emeritus of the Sierra College Center for Sierra Nevada Studies and the former Editor-in-Chief of the Sierra College Press.  He was also a history instructor at Sierra College for over twenty years.

The lecture is co-sponsored by the Sierra College Friends of the Library, a community volunteer organization dedicated to assisting and improving all campus libraries in the Sierra Community College District; and the Sierra College Press, the only full-service academic press operated by a community college in the United States.
