Artfully Celebrating Auburn's Past
The Auburn Arts Commission is sponsoring a juried show of contemporary art celebrating Auburn's past. We are looking for work inspired by Auburn's rich heritage, which includes such architectural gems as the Placer County Courthouse (1898), the old Post Office block (c. 1855), the Bernhard Museum (1851), and the Old Town Firehouse (1891).
Artists are invited to submit artwork that can be hung on the wall, including paintings, drawings, photography, and low-relief sculptures. It is hoped that the show will include a wide variety of work that reflects Auburn's storied past. (If you need a little inspiration, a list of historical buildings and areas can be found online at AuburnArtsCommission.info.)
The jurors will be Paula Amerine, painter, teacher, and illustrator; Michael Kent Murphy, architect and painter; and Bridget Powers, City Council member and former mayor of Auburn. Cash prizes ($200, $125, and $75) will be awarded for the top three picks of the jurors.
The show will hang at the Auburn City Hall Gallery from June 10th through August 1st, 2013. An artists' reception will be held on June 13th during the Auburn Art Walk (6:00 - 9:00pm).
To enter: Hand-deliver artwork to the Rose Room in Auburn City Hall, which is located at 1225 Lincoln Way, Auburn, CA 95603, on Saturday, June 8th, from 1:30 to 3:00pm. Artists whose work is accepted into the show will be notified by email or telephone. Entries not accepted for the show must be picked up on Sunday, June 9th, from 11:00am to 12:30pm. Cost to enter is $15 for up to two pieces. All work must be ready to hang and must have an integral wire to hang directly and securely on the wall.
Any work not meeting this requirement will not be considered. Please label all art (on the back) with artist's name, address, phone number, title of work, media and price. All sales are to be directly between the artist and buyer. The City Hall Gallery will not charge a commission.
