19 Year Old Killed in Orangevale Shooting
Sheriff's Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man in Orangevale early this morning.
The 19 year-old victim died of a gunshot wound to the upper body. Another man who was with the victim was also shot, but is expected to survive his injury.
At about 12:45 a.m. today, Sheriff's deputies responded to an apartment complex in the 6200 block of Hazel Avenue, regarding a shooting. Investigation revealed that the two male victims were sitting on an upstairs landing of the apartment complex. They were approached by two men, described only as wearing dark clothing. One of the men fired a weapon at the victims, before both suspects fled on foot.
The surviving victim and another person at the apartment complex attempted to render aid to the 19 year-old man, but efforts to save him were unsuccessful. Paramedics who responded to the scene pronounced the victim deceased.
The motive surrounding this incident remains under investigation. Detectives are asking anyone with information pertaining to this crime to contact the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (916) 874-5115.
