Stand Up Placer Event at Blue Line Gallery in Roseville
Placer County, CA, - Stand Up Placer will celebrate the early retirement of the mortgage on its 40 bed Safe House with a special event at the Blue Line Gallery in Roseville, California, on September 12, 2013, from 5-7pm.
Sheriff Ed Bonner and the Stand Up Placer Board of Directors will host the evening. Representatives from Placer County police departments, fire and emergency medical response units, Placer County based hospitals, and community sponsors are expected to attend. Media correspondents are invited.
"We are excited and humbled by the support that we have received, as well as with the powerful partners that help us to accomplish our mission, especially during these challenging economic times," says Michelle Coleman, Executive Director of Stand Up Placer. "Our debt has been retired early, and our new 40 bed Safe House stands as one hallmark of this hardworking and special organization."
Since opening in late 2008, the Stand Up Placer Safe House has sheltered 284 women and 333 children, providing a total of 31,506 safe bed nights. The Safe House has been at or near capacity since the beginning of 2012, serving 54 adults and 85 children with a total of 7,843 safe bed nights in 2012 alone. The youngest Safe House residents in 2012 were newborns, 3 of whom came home from the hospital to the Safe House. The oldest victims were senior citizens.
Other quick statistics from 2012: 2,242 individuals received 5,770 services from Stand Up Placer, including 193 calls to assist sexual assault survivors. Staff and volunteers received 571 calls from law enforcement, alerting the organization to domestic violence calls. Our legal advocates assisted 98 domestic violence victims with temporary restraining orders (TROs) and accompanied 239 victims to court appearances.
Stand Up Placer volunteers increase the agency's ability to serve the community with approximately 11,000 on-call hours annually, serving on crisis hotlines, accompanying sexual assault victims at forensic exams in local hospitals, and providing child care and children's programs to shelter residents. Volunteers also serve in community outreach programs, conduct support groups, and created and staff the Stand Up Placer Thrift Boutique.
