Social Justice Week at Sierra College in October
ROCKLIN, CA - It's no secret college campuses have long been center of creative thought and passionate discussion when it comes to social justice and social change.
Sierra College's Rocklin campus will be just such a hub when it hosts the seventh Social Justice Week October 7-11th. The event is open to the public and free of charge.
The focus of this year's event is Access to Education and will take on a number of issues-locally, nationally, and globally. Topics include socio-economic status and education, race and education, immigration and the DREAM Act, Title IX, STEM and underrepresentation in education, veterans' access and barriers, and more! Speakers, discussions, films and student projects will bring the topics to life. Other events will include faculty presentations, student poetry slams and a student diversity training hosted by the Beyond Diversity Club.
"Social Justice Week will tackle some of the critical issues of our time and empower our students to take action," said Megan Seely, Sierra College Professor of Sociology and Women's Studies. "This week is dedicated to exploring and analyzing the barriers to education and the fundamental impact these barriers have to a just world."
View the calendar of scheduled events at www.sierracollege.edu/socialjustice. Directions and maps to the campus can be found on the main Sierra College website. Call 916-660-8068 for additional information.
The Sierra College Rocklin Campus is located at 5000 Rocklin Road, Rocklin, CA. Daily parking permits are required and can be purchased for $3 at machines located in the campus parking lots.
