Laura Ross-Paul focuses on figures and the natural world. She uses the human form to express the workings of the soul and mind, while nature embodies the complexities of creation. Elements of nature are often employed to assist a symbolic read; sparkling water beckoning a spiritual immersion, an arching branch offering a protective cover. She has developed many painting techniques unique to her work. The trickiest process is a combination of wax and resin to float wet paint, creating an effect of luminosity.
About the ART Program
The Susan Cooley-Gilliom Artist in Residence and Teaching (ART) Program was established in 2010 through an endowed gift to Placer Community Foundation by Sue D. Cooley and the Sky View Foundation. The program represents a lasting legacy to the beloved local artist and environmental advocate.
The ART program enhances the visual arts in Placer County through short-term residencies and workshops taught each year by nationally established and highly-reputable artists who create in a range of media.
