Over 50 Roseville Leaders to be "Arrested" for a Good Cause
Roseville, CA, - More than 50 business executives and civic leaders from throughout the Roseville and South Placer County area who were accused of having big hearts and heavily armed with kindness will be "arrested" and put "behind bars" for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Lock-Up fundraiser on Tuesday, October 1st at Granite Bay Golf Club.
In partnership with the Roseville Police Department, Placer County Sheriff's Department, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, and Cal Fire NEU, jail birds are arrested and brought to Granite Bay Golf Club to serve out their sentence. "Gourmet food and water" is provided and prizes and auctions occur while the jail birds call their friends, family and co-workers to raise their bail. Contributions to MDA will directly benefit 1,100 families in the greater Sacramento area living with progressive muscle diseases.
"I'm having fun letting friends and colleagues know I'm going to be arrested," said Rich Fiechter, president of HD Supply Repair & Remodel, the Lock Up's number one fundraiser with over $35,000 already raised, over 20 times his original bail. "Several of my friends have even joked that they'll give extra to MDA just to keep me locked up" said the executive, who was ranked number 3 in the nation in 2012 for MDA Lock Up jail birds. "We are so honored how our community's jailbirds have rallied around MDA to raise bail donations," explained Kym Hoffman, executive director for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Greater Sacramento and Northern Nevada. "The actual day of the Lock-Up at Granite Bay Golf Club will be a fun celebration of the work each person did to help families who live right here in our community."
Lock-Ups are one of MDA's signature fundraising programs, benefiting local individuals living with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related progressive muscle diseases in the Greater Sacramento area. The event also will help send local kids living with muscle disease to a special week at MDA summer camp in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Camp-aged kids, as well as the many volunteers who help create magic at MDA summer camp each year, enjoy a wide variety of activities designed specifically for youngsters with limited mobility. Some activities include horseback riding, swimming, football, and arts and crafts.
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides unparalleled health care services; advocates for the families it serves; and invests significant resources educating the medical and scientific communities, as well as the general public, about neuromuscular diseases affecting more than 1 million Americans.
MDA maintains a nationwide network of some 200 hospital-affiliated clinics - 38 of which are designed as MDA/ALS centers - that provide unparalleled medical and health care services to adults and children with neuromuscular diseases. Families in greater Sacramento are encouraged to visit the MDA Clinic at UC Davis.
