Rocklin Police Department to Undergo Accreditation Assessment

Beginning December 1, 2013, a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., will examine all aspects of the Rocklin Police Department's policies, procedures, management, operations, investigations, and support services.

Verification by the team that the Rocklin Police Departments meets the Commission's high standards is part of a voluntary process to gain reaccreditation-a highly prized, international recognition of public safety professional excellence. The Rocklin Police Department was first accredited in March of 2008, and achieved reaccreditation in March of 2011.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments by calling (916) 625-5469 on Sunday, December 1, 2013, between the hours of 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.  Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.  Agency employees and members of the community are also invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday, December 2, 2013, at 6:00 PM.  The session will be conducted in the Rocklin Police Department's Community Room at 4080 Rocklin Road, Rocklin, California, 95677.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public hearing are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with CALEA's standards.  A copy of the standards is available at the Rocklin Police Department, 4080 Rocklin Road, Rocklin, California, 95677.  Individuals may contact Accreditation Manager Captain Lon Milka at (916) 625-5445 or Lieutenant Forrest Richardson at (916) 625-5420.

Persons wishing to offer written comments about the Rocklin Police Department's ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320 Gainesville, Virginia, 20155.

Chief Ron Lawrence said proudly, "The Rocklin Police Department has been a Nationally Accredited law enforcement agency since 2008, and has maintained the highest level of professionalism and applied best-practices of cutting-edge police work for many years now. I am pleased to lead a department with talented individuals who care enough about the service they provide to our community that they are willing to strive for excellence by ensuring we adhere to the strictest guidelines in law enforcement possible. This voluntary accreditation is something we as an organization choose to do, because we care about the people we serve and the professionalism we maintain each and every day." - Chief Ron Lawrence, Rocklin Police Department

The CALEA assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar, out-of-state agencies. Once the Commission's assessors complete their review of the agency, they submit a thorough written report back to the full Commission, which will then decide if the agency is to be granted reaccredited status.

Accreditation is for three years, during which time the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which they were initially accredited.
