Placer County's Top Story of 2013

american-fire.jpg

In 2013, there were many contenders for the top story in Placer County.  The story that came out on top by a dramatic margin caught a few people by surprise.

The self-defense stabbing death in Rocklin cracked the top 5 as well as the massive manhunt in October that followed a shooting in Roseville  injuring multiple police officers.

However, one story that flooded our servers day and night for weeks as area residents sought updates was the story that impacted a large geographical area for many miles in all directions. The top story for 2013 in Placer County is the American Fire near Foresthill.

The American Fire raged for weeks as over 1,000 firefighters battled the blaze which burned over 26,000 acres of dry and exceptionally rugged terrain. The resulting smoke from the fire impacted residents to varying degrees in the Sierra's as well as the central valley and South Placer County.  The fire also created many days of dramatic, hue-filled sunrises and sunsets for Roseville and Rocklin area residents.
