California Rains To Bring Drought Relief

Roseville, CA -- While there hasn't been much good news during the current California drought, there are some hopeful signs.

Although the media has emphasized the drought being the worst in modern times for California's brief history, the February storms are bringing much needed relief.

Even prior to the current series of storms expected in Northern California, the early February storms raised Folsom Lake level enough to put them above the dry period of 1976-77.

Folsom Lake as of February 26, 2014, still remains at just 30% capacity or 54% of average for this time of year according to the CA Dept of Water Resources.

The storms this week should give Folsom Lake an additional boost and some weather forecasters and planners remain optimistic that weather patterns may continue to bring much needed relief to California's parched landscape. Time will tell if that optimism is well placed or just wishful thinking.

As early as last week, that optimism helped fuel the PCWA's decision to hold off implementing water delivery restrictions. Let's all hope the good news continues.

Water conservation and droughts will always be with us in California.

For now, it's a great time to get outside and enjoy the rain!
