Sierra Women's Basketball Playoff Opener
Rocklin - For the second year in a row, the Sierra College women's basketball team will welcome the Ohlone College Renegades to Rocklin for a northern California playoff game.
Head Coach Brandie Murrish's 4th-seeded Wolverines (21-8) host the 13th-seeded Renegades (19-9) Friday, February 28 at 7:00pm at Goto/Goldenberg Court.
The Wolverines, who are looking to advance to their eighth consecutive NorCal Regional championship and second state championship game since 2007, have battled the Renegades three times since early in the 2012-2013 season. Ohlone topped Sierra 48-45 in the 2012-2013 season opener at Ohlone, but ran into a Wolverine buzz saw in round two of the 2013 NorCal playoffs, losing in Rocklin 81-60. The Wolverines outlasted the Renegades 72-65 last November in Rocklin.
Sophomore guard Erica Magana (Inderkum High School) topped Sierra in the regular season with 13.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per contest. Super-sub Joie Camalo (Rocklin) was just behind Magana with 12.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
The Wolverines 10-4 conference mark was good for a third-place finish in the rugged Big 8, which sent six out of its eight teams, including top seed San Joaquin Delta and #3 seed Santa Rosa, to the post-season. Sierra is ranked 10th in the state and 5th in NorCal in the final CCCAA poll, released last week. Ohlone is ranked 11th in the north.
The Renegades finished second in the Coast-North Conference with a 10-2 mark, just behind City College of San Francisco, the #2 seed in the north. A pair of sophomore forwards, Emily Osagiede and DeAjanae Conic, paces Ohlone. Osagiede led the Renegades with 12.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, while Conic contributed 10.2 points and 6.4 boards.
