Dozens of local organizations will be participating on May 6th in Placer County's Big Day of Giving. Each day we will be featuring one of the many participating organizations. Follow our daily series highlighting these great local organizations.

Placer Breast Cancer Endowment

Mission Statement
The Placer Breast Cancer Endowment includes breast cancer survivors and community activists committed to fully funding the Breast Cancer Endowed Chair at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. The members are also determined to raise awareness regarding breast cancer prevention, early detection, and support services available during treatment.

Background Statement
The Placer Breast Cancer Endowment was formed in 2005 by breast cancer survivors Carol Garcia, Senior Vice President of Community First Bank and Roseville City Vice-Mayor, and Teri Munger, Program Manager at American River College. The Endowment was formed with the goal of raising 1.5 million dollars to fully fund an endowed chair at the UC Davis Comprehensive Center in order to assist with breast cancer research, education and treatment.

Since 2005, the Endowment has grown to over 120 active participants with community volunteers, board members and community activists working to further the goal of the Endowment.

The funds for the Endowment are raised through 3 signature events each year: the Signe King Memorial Dinner, the Annual Pink by the Pool: A Party with Purpose, and the Hot Pink Fun Run. Along with individual donations and community driven private fundraisers, these signature events have allowed the Endowment to raise over $950,000 as of May 2013.
