Rocklin, CA -- The Flood Water Roller Derby girls are bringing roller derby to Rocklin, and they're bringing it to the park where it all began.

FWRD will host its first-ever home bout in the outdoor practice space where the skaters held their inaugural practice - the hockey rink at Rocklin's Johnson-Springview Park.

Bring your own lawn chair or sit in the bleachers to watch FWRD battle it out with the Tahoe Derby Dames on Saturday, May 17. There will be a vendor village and food trucks on-site.

Now in its second year, Flood Water Roller Derby welcomes women of all skating abilities to join the rising tide. Practice consists of on- and off-skates conditioning, roller-skating skills, scrimmages and one-on-one training with Shadow Soldier (Rena Garcia), arguably the most distinguished coach in the Sacramento area.

The Flood also seeks volunteers, men and women, on skates or off, to assist with refereeing, officiating, assisting at bouts, selling tickets and helping the team fulfill its mission of "empowering women through athleticism, teamwork, competition and volunteerism." Call (209) 753-8192 for information.
