Loomis Sunset Rotary Club to Host Award Winning Writer
(LOOMIS, CA) - Award-winning writer and literary agent, Sue Clark, will share the story behind Barbara Birchim's arduous journey to find the truth behind her husband's disappearance in 1968 at the Tuesday, June 3 meeting of Loomis Sunset Rotary Club.
Captain James D. Birchim was on a special mission in Laos when his patrol was ambushed. He suffered a broken leg and radioed for extraction. Helicopters lowered extraction rigs and the men secured themselves, except for Birchim. There wasn't enough room on the rig, so he clung to the back of one of the men for 30 to 45 minutes, suspended above the jungle before he fell roughly 2500 feet. His body was never recovered.
Barbara didn't believe her husband was dead, and began a journey to find her husband, confronting the Vietnamese government and the CIA. Sue Clark co-authored this gripping story of Barbara's long struggle for the truth, which is finally revealed in the book, "Is Anybody Listening? A True Story About the POW/MIA's in the Vietnam War."
In 2013, Sue Clark assisted 27 authors in writing and publishing their books, including 22 memoirs, 3 poetry books, a mystery and one young adult book.
The Loomis Sunset Rotary Club meets every Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30pm at the Indian Creek Country Club at 4487 Barton Road, Loomis. Public is welcome. There is a $9.00 charge for dinner and refreshments.
