Sacramento Music Festival & Jubilee
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - With nearly 100 bands scheduled to perform at 20 venues during the 41st Annual Sacramento Music Festival & Jubilee, the special $99 four-day event badge price has been extended to ALL advance tickets leading up to the festival. Once the world-class musical event begins, four-day event badges will cost $110.
The Sacramento Music Festival & Jubilee is scheduled over Memorial Day Weekend, May 23-26, 2014.
A wide variety of musical styles will be featured at the 2014 Sacramento Music Festival, such as American roots rock, soulful and rockin' blues, Cajun/zydeco, country, rockability, bluegrass, ragtime, early New Orleans jazz & swing, street beat, Latin music, big band, orchestras, banjo performances, dance and party bands, and more.
Performance highlights each evening include the following:
- Friday, May 23 - high energy Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will help get the 41st annual musical party started;
- Saturday, May 24 -- along with popular local band Mumbo Gumbo, the talented singer/songwriter Mat Kearney will be the headline performance for the evening;
- Sunday, May 25 - along with the funk and soul phenomenon Joy & Madness, the iconic American rock band Collective Soul - with seven #1 hits -- will keep the musical momentum going. To the delight of music lovers, also performing on Sunday evening is the Stray Cat's Lee Rocker and the legendary Texas Tornados.
Successfully introduced last year, these headline acts will perform on a specially-designed main stage positioned on the iconic and sprawling "Turntable on the Green" (i.e. the large grassy area officially in front of the California State Railroad Museum).
In addition to the nightly headline performances, the Sacramento Music Festival will showcase an impressive line-up of talented musicians and crowd-favorite bands that include (but are not limited to) the following: Deke Dickerson, Zydeco Flames, Garratt Wilkin & the Parrotheads, Wonder Bread 5, James Garner and the Cash Tribute Band, The Kyle Rowland Blues Band, Mick Martin & The Blues Rockers, Purple Haze Band and Two-Tone Steiny. Plus, three high-energy Next Generation Band sites will feature talented youth jazz bands from near and far that are FREE to the public and always draw a young and spirited crowd. The three youth band sites include the Delta King Dock (alongside the historic Delta King Riverboat), Round Table Pizza (downstairs and below street level) and at the Downtown Plaza Piazza in front of Macy's.
And for those who love watching a parade, the community is invited to watch a vibrant and colorful parade that will meander through the streets of Old Sacramento on Saturday morning beginning at 10 a.m. on Front Street. The lively parade will feature marching bands, fire trucks, antique cars, limousines, colorful costumes, military color guards and various dignitaries.
With musical venues sprawling from Old Sacramento to the Convention Center area, the sites vary from small to large and include cozy club settings, inside luxury hotels, on large-scale outdoor stages and even aboard the picturesque Delta King river boat and inside the California State Railroad Museum. Also, four of Sacramento's luxury hotels will offer musical entertainment including the Holiday Inn Capitol Plaza, Embassy Suites Riverfront Promenade and the Hyatt Regency.
Originally known as the Old Sacramento Dixieland Jazz Jubilee, the event has evolved and expanded over the years to embrace and offer a wide variety of musical styles in addition to the classic jazz and swing. The Sacramento Music Festival activities are scheduled from 11 a.m. until midnight on Friday and Sunday, 10 a.m. until midnight on Saturday and on Monday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. In addition to the four-day event badges, one-day event tickets are also available for as low as $10 (for seniors) and are FREE at the three Next Generation sites. A variety of public transit options are available with ample parking and FREE shuttle buses running between venues all weekend long on a first-come, first-served basis.
The 2014 Sacramento Music Festival & Jubilee is proudly presented by the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society with support from the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau. Proceeds from the event support the preservation of traditional jazz through STJS Jazz Education Programs.
