Lincoln Highway Monument Dedication Ceremony
About 60 people gathered in Ophir Thursday morning (June 26) for a dedication of a new Lincoln Highway (U.S. 40) Monument.
The ceremony was hosted by the Placer County Water Agency, which placed the monument as part of a major pipeline project along the highway route, which is now known as Ophir Road. Among those in attendance were PCWA directors Mike Lee, left, and Joshua Alpine, right, holding recognition certificates from local elected officials.
They are pictured with Donner Summit's Norm Sayler, a leader in the local effort to preserve Old U.S. 40, and Bob Dieterich, director of the California chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association. Sayler holds a 1956 California license plate presented by the office of U.S. Rep. Doug LaMalfa.
