Autism and Fragile X Participants sought for Memory Study

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) - The UC Davis MIND Institute is seeking participants for a study examining the benefits of a computer-based, game-oriented training program for enhancing working memory in children and adolescents with autism and fragile X syndrome. Participants must be between 8 and 17 and have been diagnosed with either autism or fragile X.

The researchers are seeking to determine whether children with these conditions who also exhibit symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) might benefit from cognitive training to address their attentional problems.

Participants will be required to participate in cognitive and behavioral evaluations during two to three home visits of about three hours each and participate in five to six weeks of in-home computerized cognitive training. The evaluations and computerized cognitive training will take place in participants' homes. Families will receive feedback on their children's progress and assessments. Compensation for the training is available.

The study is being managed by the attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) Program at the MIND Institute. For additional information, please call 916-703-0294, or adhd@ucdmc.ucdavis.edu.

At the UC Davis MIND Institute, world-renowned scientists engage in collaborative, interdisciplinary research to find the causes of and develop treatments and cures for autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), fragile X syndrome, 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, Down syndrome and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
