Flood Water Roller Derby Recruitment Event in Roseville
Roseville, CA -- The Flood wants you - to play roller derby. Flood Water Roller Derby invites all women interested in skating to join the rising tide.
The team, comprising female athletes from throughout Placer County and the Sacramento area, will hold a recruitment event Wednesday, Aug. 27, in Roseville. Coaches and skaters will be at the event to answer questions and give demonstrations. Loaner gear is available for those who don't have it, but it is requested that attendees bring their own mouth guards (available at a low cost at any athletic supply store).
Roller derby is more than a sport - it's a lifestyle. Derby athletes commit to two or three practices a week, where they are trained by Shadow Soldier (Rena Garcia) of Roseville, arguably the most experienced and accomplished derby skater in the Sacramento area. The coaching team works with skaters of all levels, with one-on-one training guaranteed for even the most novice skater.
FWRD is committed to empowering women through athleticism, teamwork, competition and volunteerism. The women who practice together become a family, and together they build a life full of adventure and accomplishment. FWRD is serious about skating - you won't find any tutus or ripped fishnets here! Instead, you'll find a team of powerful women giving their all at practice and leaving it all on the track.
The league is built from the ground up, with all skaters participating in every aspect, from serving on the board of directors to screen-printing jerseys. Since its inception in 2012, FWRD has secured an indoor practice space, is in the final stages of becoming a 501(c)3 nonprofit and is working diligently toward becoming a Women's Flat Track Derby Association league. This past season, FWRD traveled throughout the state to compete, and participated in numerous community events, including Hot Chili Cool Cars, Nascar races at the All American Speedway, Run Rocklin and the Berry Fest in Roseville.
Women of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to come see what this growing sport is all about. From the seasoned travel-team skater to the "fresh meat" lacing up her skates for the first time, the Flood has a place for you.
