Wanted: Event Sponsors to Attract Girls to STEM Careers

(Rocklin, CA) - Sierra College is seeking sponsors to support the third annual Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) event on November 6 in Rocklin, CA.

The goal is to provide an inspiring experience through hands-on activities and direct interaction with industry mentors to encourage girls to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education and technical careers.

Sponsorships are available including: Overall Sponsor -- $2000, Project Materials -- $1500, Lunch -- $1200 and T-shirts -- $250. Sponsors will be recognized at the opening event, in publicity and on T-shirts. In addition, VIP's can visit labs and attend sessions. Mentors are also being sought to talk with girls during lunch about their careers.

STEM education paths lead to highly-paid, in-demand technical careers, explained Carol Pepper-Kittredge, CACT Director, Sierra College  http://sierracollegetraining.com/.  "Inviting students onto our campus, introducing them to faculty and industry leaders, and encouraging them to use their creativity to make things in our labs, makes the idea of college and future employment in technical fields exciting," said Pepper-Kittredge. Over 100 girls are expected to attend.

The girls will be able to take home what they make in the hands-on portion of the event. Students can select from Welding, Photography, Mechatronics, Engineering, Technical Theater, Sustainable Agriculture, Applied Art & Design, Art for Video Gaming or Drafting & Engineering Support.

Sierra College appreciates the sponsorship commitment of CRANE, Placer Union High School District and the Sierra College Foundation and the Center for Applied Competitive Technologies to the 2015 Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) event. Other sponsors already committed include SMUD, RuffStuff Specialties, Hacker Lab, SME Sacramento Valley, Valley IT Support, AAUW Roseville South Placer, and the California Community Colleges (CCC) Special Populations initiative and the CCC North Far North Regional Consortium.

The NEW event is also supported, in part, by the Sierra College CTE Committee (Perkins 1C grant), and Sierra College CACT grant #15-302-001 (sierracollegetraining.com), and the California Community College Chancellor's Office, Workforce and Economic Development Division.
