In the early 20th century Rocklin’s K through 8th grade school, Rocklin’s only school, was sandwiched between a transcontinental railroad to the west and a transcontinental highway to the east. Children from Rocklin’s west side scurried to and from school across Union Pacific tracks while east siders dodged vehicles on highway 40, sometimes riding their bikes or skating to and from school on the smooth surface. In 1952 the Rocklin School District relocated the school to today’s safer location on Meyers Avenue. You can still see the steps to one of the old, now demolished, school buildings near the corner of Oak and Pacific.
