Doug Ose Announces Law Enforcement Endorsements

articles_doug_ose.jpgGranite Bay, CA – Former U.S. Congressman Doug Ose announced today that he has received the endorsement of Lassen County Sheriff Steve Warren and the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association.  In addition, the National Narcotic Officers’ Association blasted Tom McClintock today for accepting a contribution for his Congressional campaign from the California Organizer for the Marijuana Policy Project, a national organization that works to “remove criminal penalties for marijuana use.”

Lassen County Sheriff Steve Warren
“Doug Ose’s strong record on public safety and his steadfast commitment to law enforcement make him the clear candidate of choice for Congress in the 4th Congressional District,” said Steve Warren, Lassen County Sheriff. “Specifically, his authorship of legislation that helps law enforcement fight the growing meth epidemic is the reason that law enforcement stands shoulder to shoulder with Doug Ose in this campaign.”

Sheriff Warren has over nearly 30 years of full-time law enforcement experience and was appointed unanimously by the Lassen County Board of Supervisors in 2004.

Sacramento County Deputy Sheriff’s Association
The Sacramento County Deputy Sheriff’s Association (SCDSA) represents over 1700 deputies who have a direct impact on the lives of the citizens who reside in the communities they serve.  The SCDSA members are deputies who operate the jails and courthouses; and patrol deputies arrest drug dealers, child molesters and domestic violence suspects. SCDSA members also hold specialty assignments such as SWAT officers, K9 handlers, Helicopter pilots, and Gang Detectives.

“Each and every day, deputies put their lives on the line, never knowing what that day will have in store for them” said Kevin Mickelson, president of SCDSA. “That is why we need Doug Ose back in Congress. We have no doubt that he will be a champion for public safety again, as he has always been.”

 National Narcotics Officers’ Association
The National Narcotics Officers’ Association (NNOA) expressed shock at the recent revelation that Tom McClintock, another candidate for the 4th Congressional seat, accepted a donation from the California Organizer for the Marijuana Policy Project, an organization of 24,00o- dues-paying members whose mission is to “Change state laws to legalize non-medical use of marijuana.”

“Accepting campaign donations from advocates for the legalization of marijuana is an affront to law enforcement officers who are the first line of defense against the proliferation of illegal drugs in California,” said Ron Brooks, president of the National Narcotics Officers’ Association.

“More people seek drug treatment for marijuana than any other illicit drug. Supporting marijuana use is an example of domestic terrorism – it puts the public at great risk and threatens the very fabric of our society.

“Tom McClintock’s willingness to accept money from the California Organizer for the Marijuana Policy Project is extremely reckless and irresponsible. Any rational observer would realize that in the race for the 4th Congressional District, there’s only one true supporter of law enforcement with a zero tolerance for drug abuse, and that’s Doug Ose.”

Ose, who is staunchly against “medicinal marijuana,” served as a member of the Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources during his time as a Congressman. A foot soldier in the war on drugs, Ose authored legislation to fight the growing epidemic of methamphetamines and advocated legislation that helped put drug kingpins out of business. Ose also served on the Speaker of the House’s Task Force for a Drug Free America.

Ose worked closely with California Narcotics Officers’ Association (CNOA) when he was previously in Congress to make sure that the federal government honored a commitment to fighting its war on drugs and provided the necessary funding. He also sponsored the Clean, Learn, Education, Abolish Neutralize and Undermine Production (CLEAN-UP) Act which fights methamphetamines in a comprehensive manner and secured funding for California’s Methamphetamines Strategy (CALMS).

For these achievements, he was honored by the CNOA as the “Legislator of the Year” in 2002.

Already endorsed by nearly 100 elected officials, including California Governors Deukmejian and Wilson, Ose continues to garner the support of elected local, state and federal Republican officials.

Ose has also been endorsed by 12 of the 19 members of the California Congressional delegation.

Congressman Ose served in the United States House of Representatives from January 1999 through his retirement in January 2005.
