Last October, Mike Shellito, who was assistant city manager and community services director, was appointed by City Council to serve as interim city manager when it placed former City Manager Craig Robinson on leave. Shellito offered to serve through Dec. 31, 2009 with no additional compensation, and under the proposed contract on tonight's Council agenda, he will continue to serve as city manager until the recruitment process is completed and a permanent city manager is hired.

The month-to-month contract is substantially lower in overall compensation and different in employment terms from the prior city manager contract in several ways, including:

    * Total salary and compensation are $5,750 less per month than the previous city manager's contract, which includes
o Reduction of monthly salary to $20,833, a reduction of $1,917 per month from the previous salary for the city manager
o Elimination of car allowance of $750 per month
o Elimination of deferred compensation, which was 12.7 percent of salary
