Thunder Valley Casino Resort will be teaming up with Athletes vs Cancer and Bloodsource to find potential bone marrow donors to support patients suffering from cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma. Thunder Valley will host a bone marrow screening at the casino on July 20, where those wishing to join the registry to donate bone marrow will be asked for a cheek swab and provided with information regarding bone marrow. Bone marrow is a tissue found inside the hollow sections of bones which produces new blood cells. The transference of this tissue to those suffering from certain types of cancer has proved a vital part of fighting the diseases and has saved thousands of lives. Athletes vs Cancer is headed by NBA player Matt Barnes, who will be present at the event encouraging the public to volunteer as donors. Additional resources regarding cancer will be provided by the foundation. There will also be a meet and greet on Friday, July 23 with Matt Barnes and several other professional athletes signing autographs at the south side of Mingle Bar for the first 200 people in line from 6-7 p.m. The screening and meet and greet events both come ahead of the second annual Athletes vs Cancer 2010 Golf Tournament, presented by Thunder Valley, on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Woodcreek Golf Course in Roseville. Proceeds from the golf tournament will go toward a mobile screening van that will provide cancer screenings in underprivileged and impoverish areas.
