WJU and Sierra College Foundation partner in new program

ROCKLIN, Calif. – William Jessup University and the Sierra College Foundation are asking for donated laptops to support a new program called "Fostering Care in Education" and designed to assist former foster youth.

More than 150 students who have aged out of the foster care system are currently attending Sierra College. William Jessup University and Sierra College Foundation are partnering together to expand a program to help former foster youth succeed.

“Our goal is to equip these students with a laptop for the start of the 2011 fall semester,” said Kathleen Tucker, Director of the University Fund at William Jessup. “We want to reach out to our surrounding communities for more donated laptops to support this much needed program.”

WJU’s Information Technology department will erase and reimage the donated laptops and install the Microsoft operating licenses purchased by Sierra College Foundation.

“We appreciate the support that William Jessup University is providing to Sierra College students,” said Sonbol Aliabadi, Executive Director of the Sierra College Foundation. “The needs of these young people are often overlooked.”

Unfortunately, many foster youth generally grow up in numerous homes with few life skills or tangible items to call their own and are sent out into the world with no money or source of income.

Laptops can be donated at the Sierra College Foundation office, located at 5000 Rocklin Road in Rocklin or contact the Foundation office at 916-660-7020. WJU’s Advancement Office is also accepting laptops, at 333 Sunset Boulevard or call 916-577-1811 for more information.
